There is not enough time and that is the truth

There are only 24 hours, and you cannot win at everything at once. On choosing three goals over an endless list — and why accepting that is clarity, not weakness.

Every day I wake up with the same thought.

There is so much I want to do in life. And there is so little time.

I want to grow in more than one direction. I enjoy my work. I am a Senior Software Engineer at ServiceNow. I am happily married. I am grateful for what I have achieved.

Still, the urge to do more never leaves.

Wanting more is not the problem

I am disciplined and consistent. But ambitions keep expanding.

Every night, I try to sleep knowing I am 1–2% better than yesterday.

  • I want to focus on fitness.

  • I want to build a home.

  • I want to build a family.

  • I want to travel.

  • I want to contribute meaningfully at work.

  • I want good sleep.

  • I do not want burnout.

And then life happens.

Plans break. Routines get disrupted. External situations take control.

I do not stop.

But the thought keeps returning.

Time is not enough.

The reality of 24 hours

There are only 24 hours in a day.

To function at your best, you need 7–8 hours of sleep.

Another 2–3 hours disappear into responsibilities and interruptions.

That leaves roughly 10 hours to build yourself and build something meaningful.

And here is the uncomfortable truth.

You cannot do everything. You cannot win at all goals at the same time.

You are going to miss out.

Choosing focus over fantasy

Over time, I learned this.

Life is not about balance every day. It is about focus over time.

You have to pick your battles and spread them across your calendar.

Trying to win everywhere leads to losing quality everywhere.

The rule I follow now

On a regular working day, I focus on just three goals.

Primary — the one that puts food on the table and gives satisfaction.

Secondary — the one I am building for the future.

Tertiary — the one that keeps me mentally or physically strong.

Only three.

From a long list of ambitions, I choose three and divide my remaining hours intentionally.

Everything else waits.

The final truth

To win in any field with quality, you need time and effort.

You cannot be everywhere. You cannot do everything.

There is not enough time.

Accepting this is not weakness. It is clarity.
